MARK J. CORSALE, MD
Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist
Psychoanalyst
I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist specializing in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry. In addition, I am credentialed as a Psychoanalyst. My conveniently located in town office allows my patients easy access from around the metro
Atlanta area. I offer a broad range of services including psychiatric assessment, medication management and psychotherapy across the life span. My practice
over the last 25 years, has allowed me to witness the personal growth in patients
as they moved toward a more fulfilling life. I draw on my diverse training and
clinical experience to address the emotional and psychiatric needs of my patients.
I practice with a depth of expertise from years of advanced training in psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and practice in DBT (Dialectic Behavioral Therapy). I believe that a safe and supportive space to express one’s inner experience in words is essential. I work from a place where both the science of psychiatry and the tools of psychotherapy are equally valued.
Following my graduation from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, I
pursued a residency in Psychiatry at the Southern Illinois School of Medicine.
Once completing residency, I went on to complete a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
My psychoanalytic training was completed at the Psychoanalytic Institute of the Carolinas (formerly known as the Duke/UNC Psychoanalytic Institute). I am a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
I have extensive experience in the treatment of depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustment
disorders, posttraumatic stress disorders and attention deficit disorders across
the life span. Prior to relocating to Atlanta, I was in private practice in Columbia
SC for many years. It was during this time that my practice focused on the mental health needs of my medical peers, community professionals and their families. In addition, my consultative roles with residential treatment and therapeutic foster
care programs have afforded me extensive opportunity to work with behaviorally disordered children and youth. My approach to individualized patient care is
derived from a unique command of psychiatric skills, advanced psychodynamic knowledge and a thorough understanding and appreciation of developmental psychology. This knowledge base allows me to carefully balance a patient’s psychopharmacology and psychological needs. My approach to patient care is characterized by a deep capacity for compassion and an unwavering
commitment to the individuals with whom I am privileged to work.
I am a member of the American Psychiatric Association, The American Academy
of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and The Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association. In addition, I am a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association. I have an appointment at Emory University as a Clinical Assistant Professor. In addition, I am an assistant teaching analyst at the Emory Psychoanalytic Institute. Since 2004, my medical peers have recognized me annually by my continued inclusion in Best Doctors in America. |
